Lynn Morris Fund Drive |
|
|
| In late March 2003, Lynn underwent double knee replacement
surgery. The surgery went well, and she started walking on her new
knees within two days of surgery! Shortly following surgery,
she did suffer a minor stroke which affected primarily her speech and,
to a lesser degree, motor
skills, but she is working hard every day to regain them. The doctors are very optimistic
about her prognosis, due in no small
part to her personal strength and determination. In any case, her
rehabilitation will mean several months of
lost income and expensive treatments that extend beyond the limits of
her insurance coverage. In light of this, the California bluegrass
community is banding together to raise some money to keep Lynn and her
band afloat during the recovery period. Hopefully, relief from financial
stress will enable her to focus all her efforts on getting strong and healthy
again.
Although Lynn did not request that this fund drive be undertaken on her behalf, it is with her permission and knowledge that we are pursuing it. PROGRESS UPDATE!!: Lynn continues to play her guitar and banjo daily. She has been getting out and attending some bluegrass festivals, and her band is continuing to perform booked festivals and concerts with various excellent substitutes. Lynn traveled to San Francisco with her band for the Strictly Bluegrass Festival in early October, and it was great to see her walking on those new legs and visiting with folks. She looks wonderful, and will now doubt be back on stage in the not-too-distant future. |

How you can help: 1. Buy Lynn Morris CD's - lots of 'em. The Lynn Morris Band has a brand new CD out called Shape of a Tear. It may be purchased directly from her website.
2. Tax-deductible contributions may be made through the CBA. Make checks payable to the California Bluegrass Association, and write "Lynn Morris" on the memo line. Mail to CBA, P.O. Box 9, Wilseyville, CA 95257. 100% of these contributions will go to Lynn Morris. 3.Non-tax-deductible contributions may be made directly by sending a check made out to Lynn's husband, Marshall Wilborn, P.O. Box 2324, Winchester, VA 22601. 4. If you are a performer, consider designating one of your upcoming performances as a benefit show, and forward some or all of the proceeds to either 2. or 3. above. Be creative: if you know someone who has a large enough home or suitable space, consider doing an acoustic house concert. They are a great way to build community and raise money at the same time. Performers and bands planning benefit shows can email details of their events, and that information will appear not only on this website, but in the Bluegrass Breakdown and other listings in California bluegrass newsletters and related websites. When you email information, be sure to include links to your band website, and/or photos formatted for website display.

Other Fundraising News:
Performers at the CBA's Father's Day Bluegrass Festival June 13-16
circulated through the audience during the Friday night show with bright
blue buckets and returned with $2000 in cash! Throughout the rest of the
weekend, additional cash and checks were contributed bringing the grand
total to $2400. The CBA wishes to thank all the musicians who
participated, and those who came by the table to contribute and also to
order Lynn's CD's. Everyone wished that she could have been there
with us this year. Below are photos of the event taken by Roy
